Although, when we think of swimming pools, we usually imagine that children, adults or even the elderly are the ones who enjoy them, there is yet another alternative. These are swimming pools and equipment so that babies of just a few months old can also enjoy the aquatic facilities. These are called Baby spas.

Babies have been growing in an aquatic environment for 9 months and are therefore perfectly familiar with water. So, just a few weeks after birth, they can start water activities without any problems. Well, one of these activities is paediatric hydrotherapy.

Paediatric hydrotherapy is an activity in which floating allows the baby to move freely and naturally. It exercises their muscular system, improves their balance, helps the digestive system and brain development. In short, it is an exercise with healthy effects for the baby both organically and in the neuromotor, emotional and socio-affective areas.

So, the benefits of aquatic activity in hydrotherapy pools for babies are, namely:

  • Reduction and prevention of colic, gas, reflux and constipation. At the same time, increased appetite.
  • Increased muscle strength thanks to the gentle resistance that the water provides to their movements.
  • Improvement of the baby’s psychomotor coordination, allowing them to make movements that they wouldn’t be able to make outside the pool.
  • Stimulation of lung capacity, as the gentle pressure of the water on the chest strengthens the intercostal muscles.
  • Relaxation due to the effect of the water and therefore improved quality of sleep and rest.
  • Early cognitive development of the cerebral hemispheres.
