With the increased computing power of computer equipment and improvements in digital communications, new tools are emerging. In the case of engineering applied to architecture and construction, these tools favour collaboration, improve coordination and allow the centralisation of information on the objects to be built.
In general terms, technological advances have focused on the following tasks:
-Computer-aided design: Engineers can use computer programmes to create drawings and models of buildings. This facilitates the design process and allows for greater accuracy prior to construction.
–Simulations: Engineers use computers to conduct virtual tests of how buildings work in the real world.
–Automation: Computers control machines and processes in factories and industries, increasing production efficiency.
-Project management: Computers help engineers to plan and carry out projects in a more organised and effective way, thereby optimising resources and time.
-Data analysis: Engineers can collect and analyse large amounts of data with the help of computers, enabling them to make better and more informed decisions.
–Programming engineering: Programming engineering has become a fundamental part of computer science, responsible for creating useful programs and applications in various branches of engineering.
–Communication and collaboration: Computers simplify communication and collaboration on projects, allowing engineers to work effectively, even if they are geographically separated.
In short, computing has transformed the way engineers design, test, build and manage the elements to be manufactured or built. At the same time, it has increased the efficiency of their work and improved their ability to collaborate.
