Next to Disneyland Paris is a hotel that has taken interior design into a realm where reality and fantasy merge, a place that transcends mere practical utility to become an experience. The hotel is the 4-star, 396-room Grand Magic Hotel (formerly known as the Magic Circus, and even before that as the Holiday Inn). The Grand Magic Hotel recently completed renovations to the lobby, lounges and restaurant. The result is a symbiosis of interior design, decoration and new technologies, or a space that is not simply walked through or used, but breathed-in and lived in. In short, the hotel’s lounges provide visitors with the attraction that so many places for leisure and tourism aspire to, that is, an immersive experience.
The lobby of the Grand Magic Hotel, as a prelude to the wonders of the world, is the first note of intense red colour that reaches every corner of the hotel. Upon entering, guests have the sensation of joining the warm bloodstream of an organism of which they become a part. The energy flows and spreads to children and adults, the strong and intense desire for life is awakened, grows and encourages to dissolve and merge with the environment. The colour red is a vehicle for meanings of passion, joy, intensity and vitality. After the prelude, amidst strong palpitations, an opening crowned by an arch catches our attention. We cross it.
It is the moment of the recital, a uniform blue colour with slightly leaden shades. Ceilings, arches, furniture, floor and carpets, everything is of this blue that we would say never seen before. From passion, we pass to the serenity of a sober mood, ready for almost any adventure, and the adventure is there for all to see. Large digital panels on the sides of the columns and on the walls open up to astonishing depths, and suddenly we believe we are plunged into a fantasy world like Alice in Wonderland. Before us we discover a water palace, or a garden of French perfection, or an enchanted forest, or… Suddenly, the blue disappears like a simple canvas that supports the adventure, on which the experience is based. We stare open-mouthed, mesmerised, transported. Undoubtedly, the adventure will stay in the memory.
The multimedia studio Moment Factory was in charge of the creative direction of the interior of the Grand Magic Hotel, a work in which architecture, design, digital content, lighting and sound intertwine. The scenography was the work of Tetris Design & Build, whilst Maison Numéro 20 was responsible for the decoration. The Grand Magic Hotel is part of the Fabulous Hotels group, along with the Dream Castle and Explorers Hotel, all located in the vicinity of Disneyland Paris.
