Walt Disney opened his first theme park in 1955. Since then, the world’s most famous mouse brand has opened many more. Thanks to them, millions of visitors enjoy an experience that Disney himself defined as “magic“. Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI), the Disney branch in charge of theme park development, embraced BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology from the very beginning. Although there were difficulties with full integration at the beginning, the company managed to coordinate different technologies and disciplines to finally deliver innovative experiences in its theme parks.
One example of the successful implementation of BIM technology, is the Enchanted Storybook Castle project at Shanghai Disneyland Park in China. The incredible experience enjoyed by visitors is due to the collaboration of 142 subcontractors and disciplines from around the world. The Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge project at Walt Disney World theme park in Orlando, Florida, USA, also tested the convergence of 140 different disciplines under BIM technology. Their collaboration resulted in 600 models integrated into a single source and they succeeded in creating a detailed and immersive experience for visitors.
Disney’s development and design of theme parks using BIM technology, which they carried out as pioneers in the industry, demonstrates the possibilities and benefits of this methodology. Amusement Logic also adopts BIM technology in the development of its projects for water parks, theme parks, campsites, hotels and resorts and other leisure and tourism facilities. After all, BIM methodology facilitates collaboration with other companies and suppliers involved in each of its projects, and the work results in higher quality and greater efficiency in their construction.
