Denmark is one of the world’s most developed countries in terms of BIM methodology implementation in the construction sector. Proof of this is that it was the first country to legislate on BIM in 2007.

For more than a decade, Denmark has required companies offering construction services to state clients (from ministries to universities) to adopt BIM practices, both for new construction projects and for the refurbishment of existing buildings.

Since 2011, BIM management has been mandatory in Denmark for:

  • All local and regional projects costing more than €2.7 million.
  • Government buildings from a volume of €677,000 and above.

Among the most important BIM construction projects in Denmark is the €610 million New Bispebjerg Hospital in Copenhagen. This project includes a mental health centre budgeted at 140 million euros. Construction of the new super hospital, which will merge two existing facilities, is scheduled for completion in 2023.
