We have highlighted in several articles, the benefits of the use of BIM methodology (Building Information Modelling). during the design phase, in architecture and within our sector of activity, whether for the construction of hotels and resorts, campsites, water or theme parks, shopping centres or any other facility intended for leisure and tourism, However, this technology offers advantages that transcend the design stage and becomes an invaluable tool during the execution of the work.

Benefits of BIM methodology in construction

Firstly, this working method helps to reduce errors and/or omissions in drawings that would otherwise increase construction costs and delay the project. At the same time, it allows for better coordination between contractors and subcontractors and therefore reduces the risk of conflict on site. In addition, BIM allows contractors to anticipate and solve problems without waiting for them to occur on site.

Furthermore, BIM models can be used to simulate different scenarios and assess the risks associated with each. This allows preventive measures to be taken to reduce risks to workers on site.

BIM and construction efficiency

BIM can also improve construction efficiency. By using accurate and detailed models, contractors can plan more accurately and reduce material waste. They can also optimise the construction sequence to minimise downtime and maximise productivity. This includes evaluating different materials and construction techniques to determine which is most efficient. Finally, BIM can also help contractors track progress and performance, identify areas where efficiency improvements are needed, and take steps to address those issues. This will make it easier for builders to meet deadlines and budgets, optimise construction sequencing and reduce material wastage, thereby making significant savings in the long term.

Challenges of implementing BIM methodology in construction

Apart from the challenge of resistance to change from some team members, the need for training and education is a major challenge. To use BIM successfully, team members must acquire specific skills and knowledge, which requires additional time and resources. To overcome these challenges, it is important that team members understand the benefits of working with BIM methodology and are willing to adopt new technologies.
