Water is often a protagonist in many public spaces, in parks, squares and fountains, where it enriches the experience of citizens. It has two functionalities: a contemplative one, as a visual and sound attraction in rivers, ditches, ponds, lakes and fountains; and an interactive one in Splash Pads, dry fountains and even rivers with public bathing areas.
The perception of water in urban environments has undergone a remarkable evolution. From being looked down upon for fear of spreading disease in the past, it is now seen as an essential resource to be preserved and valued. In the past, the enjoyment of water in urban spaces was reserved for the elite and limited to private gardens or parks.
Today, its use has been democratised and extended to public spaces for the enjoyment of all citizens. Water finds various manifestations in these spaces:
–Ponds, lakes or rivers in parks: places of aquatic serenity.
–Fountains in urban squares: reflective mirrors and meeting points.
-Urban rivers: vital connections with nature.
–Performance Fountains: artistic performances with water jets.Â
–Splash Pads: interactive water fun areas.
