The place is Saint-André, a city in the French overseas department of Reunion Island, a land of sugar and vanilla cultivation. With the idea of improving the well-being of its citizens, the city’s municipality decided to revitalize the most important park in its territory, with an investment of 12 million euros. The park is the Parc du Colosse, which has just opened to the public. Amongst its new facilities, one of the more outstanding is the Splash Pad, specially designed and constructed by Amusement Logic.
The project was designed in collaboration with local architects and landscapers, with unique elements and a personalized theme, all inspired by the park’s name, as if it were a giant’s garden. In addition to games like the Jets, the figures from the Fun Clan collection, the Spray Toons, the Konga platforms and Aqualand Island, giant flowers and a boot-shaped building were incorporated into the ensemble, to house the services. All this is accompanied by the play-element par excellence, water. Another innovative aspect was the structural integration of a continuous bench on its perimeter and around some of the components.
With this installation, Parc du Colosse which has restaurants, craft shops, bars, kiosks, an acrobatic skating rink and a lake for water activities such as boating, etc., is completed with a fun space for children and youngsters. It therefore becomes a perfect place for an extensive and family public, where people can spend many hours being entertained, socialising and relaxing. It’s open from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., which allows Saint-André’s citizens to choose the best time to enjoy it.
The large venue will also host concerts and other events, and is home to the town’s most important celebration, “Deepavali” or the Festival of Lights. Deepavali, which celebrates the Hindu New Year, is a 5-day festival, during which people wear their finest clothes, share sweets and throw firecrackers and fireworks. Without a doubt, no other space in Saint-André could be more suitable for this and other festivals, than Parc du Colosse.
