Jordan’s only seaport is located at its southern tip, in Aqaba, the city that gives its name to the gulf that bathes its shores, at the northern end of the Red Sea. In this rapidly developing city lies a spectacular 634,000 m2 tourist and leisure destination: Saraya Aqaba. Its owner, the Abu Dhabi-based real estate investment and development firm Eagle Hills, commissioned Amusement Logic, “one of the world’s largest design companies,” to create and build the Saraya Aqaba Water Park. Aimed at “enhancing comfort and entertainment at the highest level,” this water park, the first of its kind and the largest in the country, will join the destination’s two luxury hotels, man-made lagoon, residential, business, leisure and entertainment facilities. When it opens in mid-2021, it will become one of the country’s major attractions for local and international visitors.

One of the most interesting aspects of the Saraya Aqaba Water Park is the theming that integrates it throughout and unifies it. To create the large artificial rock massifs that frame the attractions, Amusement Logic was inspired by the mountains surrounding the city and also the magnificent monuments of the city of Petra. Part of the slides are accessed via a unique tower made of artificial rocks, instead of using the usual metal structure platforms. For the integration of the service buildings and other attractions, on the other hand, the architecture of the monumental city served as a model. An example of this is the large Waterparty in the children’s area, which has been themed with columns, lintels and tympanums reproducing elements of the architectural style found in Petra.

With regard to the attractions, spread over an area of 14,000 m2, the Saraya Aqaba Waterpark consists of a slide area designed “for the whole family“, with models of Freefall, Multi-lane, Hydrotube and Bowl, Crazy River, Black Hole, Snake and the aforementioned monumental Waterparty for children. It also has a Wave Pool, a Lazy River that runs along its entire length, a Surfrider or wave simulator for surfing and body boarding, and a pool for adults with a hydrotherapy system. In addition to all of the above, there are landscaped areas, as well as restaurants and other services.

From the first designs and the feasibility study, to the manufacture and installation of the different attractions, as well as the complex hydraulic system of the whole complex, the theming and the artificial rocks, the Saraya Aqaba Water Park is the result of more than 3 years of collaboration between Amusement Logic and Eagle Hill. Meticulous work, so that the 1,500 daily visitors that the park expects to welcome, will enjoy a unique, fun and safe experience.
