Eco-districts represent an innovative approach to sustainable urban development. Their main objective is to create communities that are in harmony with nature and encourage citizens to adopt sustainable practices. In this way, they respond to the challenge of climate change, as well as improving citizens’ quality of life. Some of the key features of eco-districts include:

-Electricity supply from renewable energy, water reuse and carbon footprint reduction.

-Integration of nature through the creation of green spaces and conservation areas.

-Promotion of sustainable mobility through the use of non-polluting means of transport and the construction of infrastructures that favour the use of bicycles and walking.

Citizen participation, stimulation of environmental awareness and promotion of sustainable practices.

In this way, an eco-district provides better air quality, reduces energy bills by relying on renewable sources of supply and by aiming for efficiency and zero net annual consumption.
