This month we bring you a new architectural project on whose design Amusement Logic is currently working. It is a contemporary single-family house, inserted into the rocky landscape, in an arid environment. Partially buried, the house only has a glazed façade visible. In front of it, we have integrated an elegant swimming pool for the sake of visual contrast with the surrounding landscape, in addition to the comfort and the possibilities it offers residents to cool off in the hottest hours of the day.
The advantages of this underground architecture, in arid terrain such as its location, are manifold. These are:
- Energy efficiency: by being partially buried, the dwelling takes advantage of the thermal inertia of the ground, which makes it possible to maintain a stable interior temperature and reduce energy consumption in air conditioning. Precisely in these arid environments, where temperatures tend to go from one extreme to the other in a few hours, with very hot days and cold nights, its underground location is particularly appropriate.
- Landscape integration: by blending into the rocky environment, the building respects the topography and the natural landscape. With such a design, we minimise the visual and environmental impact of the house after its construction. At the same time, by hiding from view, the privacy of the residents is enhanced.
- Protection against climatic phenomena: its underground location protects the house against wind and sandstorms, which are common in arid terrain. However, the glazed façade allows residents to enjoy the landscape and take advantage of natural light.
- Efficient water use: we have designed the pool with a system to collect and reuse rainwater, which is particularly important in arid environments with water scarcity. At the same time, the pool functions as a passive cooling element thanks to its ability to reflect sunlight.
- Low maintenance: The use of local and climate-resistant materials such as natural stone and concrete in its construction, in addition to being an aesthetic factor that harmoniously integrates the building into the landscape, reduces the need for maintenance and repairs.
