With a design by the Catalan architectural studio RCR Arquitectes – winner of the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 2017 – a skyscraper is being planned in Dubai whose unusual features will redefine the city’s skyline. Located next to Sheikh Zayed Road, it is a residential skyscraper 380 metres high and 73 storeys high. The unusual fact is that each of its 131 luxury residences, with between 2 and 5 bedrooms, will occupy the entire 22.5m width of the building. It is Muraba Veil, “a shimmering tower of timeless elegance (…) holds the promise of sanctuary, privacy and a close connection to nature, high above Dubai”.
A floor plan inspired by traditional Arabian houses – in which all the rooms and rooms open onto the outside, or onto an inner courtyard filled with greenery and water – make the Muraba Veil tower a contemporary interpretation of traditional architecture, adapted to the modern urban context. Therefore, each dwelling in the unusual, ultra-slim Muraba Veil tower will extend from end to end, across the entire depth of the building, so that “the only neighbour is the pure blue sky”.
RCR Arquitectes’ design, with its unique flat width, ensures uninterrupted views in almost every direction of Dubai and the Arabian Gulf. In addition, the residences will comprise a “hybrid space”, with “screens of vegetation and pools of water to temper the hot air as it enters”. After all, the proposal not only seeks to offer luxury, but also to foster a connection with the natural and cultural environment of the site.
The base of the building, meanwhile, will house leisure and sports facilities in a multi-functional space landscaped to evoke the desert dunes. These include a spa, a restaurant, a gallery, a paddle tennis court, a private cinema and meeting areas in different parts of the building. The Muraba Veil tower therefore stages a balance between entertainment and living facilities for residents. With prices starting at €4.9 million, the attractive flats in the Muraba Veil tower are sure to appeal to those who can afford them.
