Modelling with BIM methodology (Building Information Modelling) offers numerous advantages also in the design of electrical installations. These are some of the main ones:

Integrated modelling: it is a comprehensive modelling environment that allows designers of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) electrical installations to create detailed, comprehensive and accurate 3D models. In these models, it is easy to visualise the project and to detect conflicts between different systems and components, and therefore to avoid errors and corrections.

Multidisciplinary coordination: It allows MEP electrical designers to collaborate with other professionals, such as architects or structural engineers, in a shared model. This encourages coordination and communication between different design teams, resulting in reduced errors and consequently more efficient integration.

-Availability of content libraries: The system has an extensive component library that includes pre-defined MEP electrical elements such as sockets, switches, control panels, cables, cable trays and more. These elements can be easily placed in the model, speeding up the design process and ensuring accuracy.

Electrical load analysis: BIM allows electrical load analysis to determine the energy demand of a building. This helps to properly size electrical systems and therefore avoid over-sizing. This results in efficient use of resources and cost savings.

Documentation and planning: The system automatically generates detailed drawings and documentation, such as bills of materials, wiring diagrams and circuit diagrams. This facilitates communication with contractors and other professionals involved in the project.

-Automatic changes and updates: BIM is based on parametric objects, which means that if a change is made to a component, such as the size of a cable or the location of a switch, all related elements are automatically updated throughout the model. This improves efficiency and avoids the need for repetitive manual changes.

All these points make BIM methodology a powerful option for professionals working in MEP electrical installation design.
