The Layan Project is a residential development located on the southeast coast of Bahrain. “Nestled amidst the serenity of one of the most desirable locations” in the country, in the words of its developer, the Bin Faqeeh real estate firm, “Layan defines luxury“. Indeed, the new residential complex is part of the Durrat Marina, “an iconic $1.3 billion waterfront creation, conceived and modelled by some of the world’s leading designers and regarded as one of the finest examples of urban planning in the world today”. Beyond the obvious interest and architectural value of the project, Amusement Logic is the design firm chosen to develop the architectural and engineering project for one of the elements that distinguishes it and makes it unique: its residential water park.

The residences to be offered by the complex, which is currently under construction, include studios, duplexes and 1, 2 and 3-bedroom flats, as well as penthouses, all set in 300 m2 of gardens and green areas. In addition, the complex has areas for health, wellness and sport, as well as, “the definition of modernity and the future of water parks”. Elevated above street level, on the “recreational floor” of the development, Amusement Logic has designed and integrated the spectacular Layan water park into architecture that “evokes the fluidity of the waves of the sea”. One of its many singularities is the fact that access to some of its slides will be private and exclusive to residents in selected flats.

The design provided by Amusement Logic responds to each of the developer’s guidelines. It harmoniously integrates a slides area called Banana Forest, a family area or Bamboo Forest, with children’s attractions, a wave pool which the project refers to as Palm Beach, an activity and adventure area, or Rainforest, and a relaxation area with jacuzzis, or Deep Jungle. A lazy river, a surf simulator, as well as the usual service facilities such as the entrance and ticket office, changing rooms, and a commercial space for shops or a restaurant area and a swim-up bar, along with technical rooms, offices, etc., complete the water park. The white slides with translucent sections, which allow the enjoyment of views over the Marina Durrat, or the provision of a lift to access the park from the residences, are other singularities of the design.

Finally, in response to the demands of Bin Faqeeh’s representatives, Amusement Logic has developed its designs with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind. As far as possible, the project maximises the use of local products and materials in the construction of the water park, without renouncing the most advanced technologies. Finally, the model has been conceived in such a way that the facilities are accessible to users with functional diversity. Undoubtedly, the water park of the Layan residential complex will be one of the fundamental elements in obtaining the balance between family enjoyment and personal comfort, between entertainment and wellbeing, the main objective of the project from the beginning.
