In this new conceptual design, the volcanic rock provides not only the landscape and backdrop but also the very material of the structure. The villas and accommodation units are distributed across the black lava, nestled among the terrain’s volumes and irregularities. In this way, the hotel resort appears to be an integral part of the ancient landscape—a new proposal from Amusement Logic’s Design Department.
Architecture inspired by the landscape
The terrain’s natural caverns, elevation changes, and platforms define the boundaries of the resort complex. While some guest units are partially carved into the rock, others open onto courtyards overlooking the landscape and water. The visual impact of the resort is virtually eliminated as it nestles within the solidified lava, which simultaneously acts as thermal insulation against temperature fluctuations.
Inside, the dark stone gives way to light-filled spaces, warm surfaces, and natural wood, while large windows look out over the water and vegetation. The accommodation units serve as intimate retreats within this monumental landscape.
Water: a harmonious architectural counterpoint
Crystal-clear pools naturally occupy the spaces within the resort; their organic shapes break away from conventional pool designs, making the water appear to emerge naturally from the rocks—as if springing forth by chance from ancient volcanic fissures. Some pools frame the views from guest rooms, while others—shared by all guests—form lagoons connected by small waterfalls.
Waterfalls cascade down between basalt walls. The movement and musicality of the water are accompanied by a light mist that cools the pedestrian walkways. Guests navigate between accommodations, swimming areas, restaurants, and relaxation zones by following the flow of the water. The contrast between black lava and turquoise water defines the project’s identity.
The vegetation of an unexpected oasis
Vegetation is concentrated in the areas surrounded by water. Palm trees, ferns, large-scale plants, and climate-adapted species flourish in courtyards, garden beds, and sheltered terraces. Rather than completely covering the volcanic landscape, the landscape design creates distinct pockets of greenery, thereby heightening the site’s exotic, oasis-like atmosphere.
An experience defined by contrast
The design of this volcanic resort hotel creates a relationship of contrasts between architecture, water, and landscape. The ruggedness of the rock blends with the fluidity of the water; the darkness of the terrain contrasts with the brightness of the terraces, guest rooms, and pools; and the monumental scale of the surroundings is balanced by intimate, sheltered spaces.
