In the age of artificial intelligence (AI), an inevitable question arises: will these new technologies replace architects? In any case, we can safely say that AI is already transforming the way architects work. Tools such as 3D modelling, virtual reality or data analysis revolutionise the design process and allow for greater efficiency and accuracy than the methods of just a few decades ago.
That’s right, advanced algorithms are able to analyse large amounts of data to generate new perspectives on urban design. Or to optimise the energy efficiency of buildings and therefore their sustainability. Or to improve pedestrian circulation in urban areas and predict the environmental impact of projects.
However, we believe that AI will not completely replace architects. Even if it serves to automate certain design processes, creativity and human judgement and perspective will still be indispensable. After all, architects have an understanding of human needs, culture and social context that no machine can replace. Moreover, human interaction is essential for communication with clients or the community.
Rather than ceding their place to AI, architects integrate it into their practice to provide better solutions to contemporary challenges. With it, they produce innovative and sustainable designs. In this way, the future of architecture lies in the collaboration between humans and technologies. Harnessing the best of both fields serves the construction of smarter and more habitable buildings.
