8 years of construction, 650 m in length, 400,000 m2 of built area and a budget of around €1 billion are the main figures of the giant that opened its doors to the public last September (2023) in the city-prefecture of Zhuhai, in the south of China. The Chimelong Spaceship, or Chimelong Marine Science Park, is an indoor theme park in the shape of a spaceship dedicated to different ecosystems of the world. Well, this immeasurable theme park has smashed a few world records:
-First and foremost, it is indeed the world’s largest indoor theme park, well ahead of Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi’s 150,000 m2, which held that record since 2019.
-With more than 75 million litres of water between the various tanks, the Chimelong Spaceship aquarium is crowned as the largest in the world and as such snatches the record held since 2014 by Chimelong Ocean Kingdom’s neighbouring attraction, with almost 49 million litres, also from Chimelong Group.
-In addition, the largest tank in the indoor theme park contains more than 56 million litres, which is a new world record for water in a single tank.
-That same huge tank is equipped with a system that generates waves up to 3.2 m high, which in itself is a new record, that of the world’s largest artificial wave in an indoor park.
-The world’s largest artificial coral reef is located in the Chimelong Marine Science Park. 10 tanks with almost 3 million litres of water are its home.
-But there’s more: Chimelong Spaceship features the attraction known as Bermuda Storm, a cinema that is superior in two ways to any other of its kind in the world. Namely, it has the world’s largest curved projection screen, with 1,682 m2 of floor space, and the largest motion-simulation platform on the planet, or 304 seats.
Chimelong Spaceship, the “second gate” of the Chimelong International Ocean Resort, is home to nearly 150,000 marine animals of over 400 species, and has a whopping daily capacity of 50,000 visitors. Finally, attached to the park building, a themed hotel stands 26 storeys high with 1,250 rooms themed down to the last detail.
