As every year, two prestigious awards have recently been announced in the field of campsites, which some call the “Oscars” of the sector. These are the prizes awarded by the General German Automobile Club (ADAC), the largest automobile association in Europe, and the Royal Dutch Touring Club ANWB, with more than 4 million members (whose acronym corresponds in Dutch to its former and discontinued name as the Dutch General Cycling Federation). In this year’s 2022 call for entries, each of these organisations has respectively awarded a prize to two Spanish campsites, among other European campsites.

An international commission of 40 experts awarded the ADAC Camping Award to the best campsite in Europe in the category of “Sustainability and environmental awareness” to Camping La Ballena Alegre. According to statements by ADAC, “the modern facilities of the Costa Brava campsite” received this award “for its sustainable and environmentally friendly operation and, in particular, for its maximum reduction of CO2 emissions”. According to them, the campsite’s sustainable operation saves the environment more than 100 tonnes of CO2 per year. The fact is that Camping La Ballena Alegre has renovated its facilities to make them more efficient and therefore reduce the greenhouse emissions associated with its operation. These actions include the use of solar energy and geothermal energy, the replacement of conventional vehicles with electric vehicles and the implementation of recharging points for them, the reduction in consumption by improving the hydraulic network, the use of LED lighting, etc.

For its part, the Tamarit Beach Resort Campsite, located in Tarragona, was awarded by the ANWB as the best European campsite in the category of “Most appreciated rental accommodation“. According to the ANWB, this category values the quality-price ratio of the campsite, its facilities, hygiene and location. Tamarit Beach Resort deserves the award for its location “in a picturesque spot, next to the Tamarit castle, hidden amongst pines and deciduous trees and on the beachfront“. It also has “a large swimming pool and solarium, a water park and a wide range of sporting options“.

From here, our most sincere congratulations to these two excellent campsites!
