Last March (2025), the Lopesan Group announced at the Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin (ITB Berlin) – the world’s largest tourism trade fair – the construction of a new resort. After an investment of some €320 million, the new resort hotel in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, will open for tourism in 2026. Amongst its new features will be a water park and the design and supply of attractions, which has been entrusted to Amusement Logic.
Since 1972, when the original family business was founded, Grupo Lopesan has grown and expanded around the world with hotel brands such as Kumara, Corallium, Abora and IFA, and with hotels in the Canary Islands, Austria, Germany, Thailand and, of course, the Dominican Republic. Indeed, since 2019, the Lopesan Group has the Lopesan Costa Bávaro Resort, Spa & Casino, a “self-built” all-inclusive hotel. Now, the Lopesan Group will expand its assets in the region with a new resort in the same modality.
The new Lopesan resort will have around 1,000 rooms, on land adjacent to the existing Lopesan Costa Bávaro Resort, Spa & Casino. According to statements made by José Alba, general manager of the group’s hotel division, as reported by Forbes during ITB Berlin, the new resort hotel is aimed at the US market. Water, through several pools, the water park and “an artificial cenote”, will be the protagonist of the landscaping and will connect the different spaces.
Lopesan’s Punta Cana resort will cater to three guest segments: the family audience, guests seeking an “adults only” experience, and business travellers. In the latter case, the all-inclusive resort will feature a conference centre, conference rooms and other event areas.
The family-oriented water park will feature a spectacular wave pool, two Hydrotubes, 2 Freefall models, a Kamikaze and 2 Black Holes. Amusement Logic will provide a complete “turnkey” service, including the design, engineering, supply and assembly of the water attractions for the Lopesan Group’s next large all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
